K.C. Undercover is an American comedy sitcom originated by Disney Channel. It stars Zendaya as the titular character, K.C. Cooper. It is created by Corinne Marshall, and co-produced by Zendaya and Rob Lotterstein. It is produced by It's a Laugh Productions, the production company that produces most of the shows on Disney Channel.
It was announced by a main cast member that the series had wrapped up on September 30, 2017.[1] Disney Channel has yet to announce the ending of the series.
Plot
K.C. Cooper is a high school math whiz and karate black-belt who learns that her parents are spies when they recruit her to join them in the secret government agency, The Organization. While she now has the latest spy gadgets at her disposal, K.C. has a lot to learn about being a spy, including keeping her new gig a secret from her best friend Marisa. Together, K.C. and her parents, Craig and Kira, and her younger siblings, Ernie and Judy (a humanoid robot), try to balance everyday family life while on undercover missions, near and far, to save the world.[2]

Development
The series was first announced as a pilot in pre-production titled Super Awesome Katy in November 2013. The series was set to star Shake It Up star, Zendaya, who would play 16 year old Katy Cooper, an outspoken and confident technology wiz and skilled black belt, who discovers that both her parents are spies who expect her to follow in their footsteps. Production on the pilot was set to begin in early 2014.[3] On November 6, 2013, Zendaya tweeted about the pilot saying she wants to bring back the "cool Disney Channel," mentioning shows like That's So Raven, The Proud Family, and Kim Possible.[4]
Trivia
- The show's working title was Super Awesome Katy, but was changed because Zendaya felt that she did not look like a Katy and she wanted a more mature title that would reach an older demographic.[5]
- On June 3, 2017, Disney Channel launched ZenDAYa day! The channel featured an all-day marathon of K.C. Undercover episodes and Zapped just for the occasion. The ZenDAYa event also included the “A Fans Guide to Spider-Man: Homecoming” with Spider-Man: Homecoming with stars Tom Holland and Zendaya. And ZenDAYa day also featured the premiere of the Walk the Prank episode special titled, K.C. Undercover Edition.[6]
- Disney Channel executive VP Adam Bonnett talked a bit about the success of K.C. Undercover in a statement announcing the good news, saying everyone at the network is incredibly proud of the series’ popularity.[7]
- K.C. Undercover picked up an Emmy nomination for Outstanding Cinematography For A Multi-Camera Series.[8]
- The show was the 13th Disney Channel Original Series to end after 3 seasons, after Bug Juice, The Famous Jett Jackson, So Weird, The Jersey, Even Stevens, The Suite Life Series, Fish Hooks, Shake It Up, A.N.T. Farm, Dog With a Blog, and Girl Meets World.
- The show has the second lowest percentage of main cast members who appear in every episode out of all Disney Channel original series with 17% (1 out of 6). Only Stuck in the Middle has a lower percentage with 11% (1 out of 9) and this is due to the show having more main characters.
